Ctrl + τ: Dimitra Kousteridou
CTRL+ τ is an initiative aimed at mobilising emerging local and international artists to deploy their artistic practice and develop a work in progress. Throughout the year and for a specific period, different artists are given control of T.A.F.’s physical and virtual space, in order to elaborate upon the concept of CTRL+τ with absolute freedom in terms of research methodology and artistic means.
Dimitra Kousteridou takes over the gallery of T.A.F. shaping a work in progress that will stay open to the public for 5 days. The project is about a series of artworks she’s been working lately, titled 6.8KOhm, in which she uses synthesizers that she has made on her own, playing sound frequencies through them, coming from electrical sources. The main patent idea is the use of sound as a structural element of the material composition in installations, paintings, sound sculptures and interactive performances.
Through her artistic practice up until now, she has been experimenting accompanying the handmade circuit in order to create image, sound and conceptual perception of the objects. While she takes over the gallery of T.A.F, she will work in situ installations, trying to interact with the range between sound waves, electrical power and sculptures, aiming to big in scale audio-visual compositions. The project is based on improvisation, in which sound is formed in a natural space and re-evaluates the perceptive differences between noise, sound and objects in the surroundings. The work in progress will be open in everyday interaction of the audience in synchronization with live installations that whether embody sound as a component of the artwork or give prominence to the acoustic experience through references and symbols, while using all the available media.
Dimitra Kousteridou works mostly with site specific art and improvisations that focus on sound. The core of her interest is on the deconstruction of the visual identities of objects, infusing it with a new acoustic character, thus amplifying its natural, acoustic and sensorial qualities. This quite often leads her in multidisciplinary forms that include installations, ephemeral situations, interactive handmade synthesizer or fractures of objects, while using their sound as the main element. The audience can imagine her performances like the compositions, from where a new network of objects, memories and experiences, arise.
On the 14thof April, Sunday there will be a performance of the artist with some of her co-workers at 18.00.
