CTRL T: Marcin Knyziak
Go West / a project on how people negotiate their space
metamatic:taf continues its umbrella program CTRL+T with the participation of Marcin Knyziak and the project Go West, opening on Tuesday 7 February 2017 at 20.30 and running until 24 February.
The CTRL+ T programme is an initiative aimed at mobilising emerging local and international artists to deploy their artistic practice and develop a work in progress. Throughout the year and for a specific period, different artists are given control of metamatic:taf’s physical and virtual space, in order to elaborate upon the concept of CTRL+T with absolute freedom in terms of research methodology and artistic means.
CTRL+T constitutes a platform for artists and researchers to work during the period of time with social turmoil and cultural transitions that constantly trigger new concerns in the field of cultural production in Greece.
Go West is a new piece of work developed in, and inspired by, the city of Athens. Marcin Knyziak observes how people negotiate their space within the city organism, and between themselves, using photography, sound recordings and cheap video tricks to portray it. His project meditates on the theme of a journey and the choices people make in a wider context of migration and settlement. The work will be presented in a form of an installation at metamatic:taf, as well as a one-off immersive audio event.
Marcin Knyziak is an audio-visual artist, sound designer and filmmaker living in Glasgow, Scotland. Collaborative films with his soundscapes have won at numerous festivals - including Sundance, Los Angeles and Chicago. In the last few years Marcin has attended Berlinale Talents, co–directed a documentary film, and taken part in art residencies in Montreal, Belgrade, Athens and Madeira. His recent work includes live performances, installations and video art.
Opening: Tuesday 7 February 2017, 20.30
