metamatic:taf institution / New standards and practices that prevail in the current artistic language
Update 040114: The exhibition will run until 26 January 2014
metamatic:taf is glad to present for forth consecutive year the exhibition Studios 2013, which opens on Thursday 12 December 2013 and will run until 5 January 2014.
The exhibition is an institution for metamatic:taf and aims to transmit the artistic vibe of the Athens School of Fine Arts, hosting a collection of works by recent graduates in an open discourse between them. The goal is to reveal through the coexistence of the works the tendencies, conceptual and practical explored throughout the academic study as well as the way in which they affect the artistic path of the young Greek artists. This way the audience cultivates a more substantial understanding of the new standards and practices that prevail in the current artistic language while developing a familiarity with future creative approaches.
The show presents artworks that constitute part of the artists’ thesis and have been selected due to the uniqueness in which they perceive the social and aesthetic role of contemporary art, a sense that mostly derives from the way they utilize established and new artistic media. This predominant tendency for a renegotiation of the aesthetical concepts and practices constitutes the connective element of the exhibition, demonstrating a conscious need to re-examine and redefine, which functions as an inducement for an alternative way to approach and view the works.
